Only in America as they say. Nicole Richie sent her friends invitations to a Memorial Day party she was hosting last Thursday and it reads something like this:
My fellows Americans its that time of year
To celebrate our country by drinking massive amounts
of beer
Let’s stand together as one, live the American dream
Take shots, pass out, & wake up with our pants
ripped open at the seams
Let’s glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your
tightest pair of Tsubi jeans
Even though we have no clue what Memorial day means!!!
There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds
allowed in. Start starving yourself now!
Such poetic elegance, spoken like a true anorexic!
It is also rumoured that at this party OC star Mischa Barton mixed her booze and drugs. Sources indicate she basically overdosed. A friend at the party quoted “She was rolling around on the ground… and then suddenly she began screaming that she was dying.” but in true Hollywood style, Mischa’s rep denies this event.
And to think today’s girls look up to and idolize girls such as Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton when in actual fact they are simply the epitome of health.
And that just about warps up my rant for this week / month.

The Peel Hotel, A Gay Bar in Melbourne, Australia has gained permission from the Australia Government to ban heterosexuals and lesbians from entering the pub. Cate McKenzie, who is the chief of the Government body who granted this permission supports the ruling saying, “This would undermine or destroy the atmosphere which the company wishes to create. Sometimes heterosexual groups and lesbian groups insult and deride and are even physically violent towards the gay male patrons. To regard the gay male patrons of the venue as providing an entertainment or spectacle to be stared at, as one would at an animal at a zoo, devalues and dehumanizes them.” The hotel’s owner Tom McFeely has told Melbourne’s heterosexual population to go to one of 2,000 available clubs catering to heterosexuals. Lesbian and Heterosexual individuals are still allowed to stay at the pub.
Over the top or top job?

Well, due to the fact that Feedburner wasn’t displaying my post content (and I was trying to knock some stuff of the To-Do list) on my feed I decided to delete it. Now obviously you get the usual ‘Are you sure?’ confirmation but Feedburner offers a great service which allows 30 days of redirection back to your proper feed URL. That’s great and all but not when you click it and didn’t want to. So now I have to wait 30 days for the damn thing to expire which I really don’t want. So now I have a new Feedburner address which is feeds.feedburner.com/forgedeuphoriacom (the same address just with a ‘com’ placed on the end). I’ll be sticking with this address from now on as changing back to the old one after 30 days will be a pain.
I have also changed the Feedburner FeedSmith plugin to reflect the new URL. The plugin redirects anybody visiting www.forgedeuphoria.com/blog/feed/ to Feedburner. So to all my subscribers of the old Feedburner feed: Change over within 30 days!
Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some of you, but maybe it will work out well in the long run. We will have to wait and see..

Last night I purchased stylecomment.com which will serve me for the next 2 years (or longer if I decide to renew the domain) as my personal portfolio site. Right now It’s just a placeholder (like this domain too! Picked up on my habits yet?) that I whipped up really quickly but that will change once I start to get more design clients coming through. Right now I am in the process of finishing up a site for a local primary school and then maybe I’ll get something up onto my portfolio for all you people to gaze at. In saying that it is my personal portfolio site showcasing all my client sites, it also means I can design a site for you too. Like the sound of that? Email me: jarred@stylecomment.com

After making my daily visit to MyBlogLog and viewing my profile page I’ve discovered that MyBlogLog has rolled out a new feature - tags! (Read about it on the MyBlogLog Blog)
In trying to keep up with all things web 2.0, you can now tag people and communities. I am yet to make a judgment on whether I (dis)like the new feature, but only time will tell. If you’re unsure what tags are the small information box on MyBlogLog puts it plain and simple:
Tags are super-short descriptions of people and sites. Tags describe you and your sites so others can easily find you. Tag people and sites to describe them to the community and return to them in the future.
It even continues the web 2.0 trend with included rollovers to show who tagged you with what. Like the sound of that? Head over to my profile or the forgedeuphoria community and give me some tag love. If you’re not a member of MyBlogLog, why not signup and join my community or add me as a friend? Or if you’re already an existing member why not do the same? Spread the love!

An XSS vulnerability has been discovered in the popular Redoable theme (version 1.2) by Dean Robinson (which this blog happens to be running). A proof of concept and a temporary patch have been released by the finder of the flaw over in this post at redlevel.org. It is advised that you update as soon as possible.
I have patched my theme so for all you script kiddies out there, it simply means Go away and find someone else’s blog to exploit.

The post title is actually a little bit of a misnomer, as this is my 101st post. The 100th post turned out to be my To-Do list. But we’ll bend the rules just a little for the sake of it. Anywho, I’ll make this short and sharp:
Thanks to everyone who has supported this blog, whether it be leaving comments, through donations or simply showing your appreciation in many small ways which I can not possibly begin to write. This blog will never be the next Gizmodo or Techcrunch, but I like to think that I can at least try. Your continued support of my blog helps to keep me motivated and keep posting on my small slice of the internet. So to all the readers and whatever else category you other people may fall into, thankyou for supporting my blog and to some, even your continued support of my blog.

So here it is; the dreaded to-do list. I would normally put this in a page of it’s own, but due to the pages not showing issue (and the possible fix), I’ve had to put it into a single post which I will mark as Noteworthy. This simply will make this the post that always shows at the top of the blog before the newer posts.
So here we go, and in no particular order, I present to you my to-do list:
Fix the page not showing issue
Get Feedburner to display full text feeds. For some strange reason Feedburner has decided to stop showing full text feeds in my RSS Feed and I’ve had complaints, so that’s certainly on the list. I just can’t seem to find the option in my Feed Administration panel so if anyone can point me in the right direction, thanks!
- Clean up my sidebar code as it’s rather messy at this present moment. This could even span into a full code cleanup
- Edit/cleanup certain plugins, namely two things: 1) remove the RSS Subscribe reminder from the sidenotes. I originally thought this would be a simple thing but it has proved a pain so far 2) Fix the Adhesive plugin (which allows me to make posts ‘Sticky’) to stop it from showing Sticky posts at the top of the Sidenotes when they are not meant to be shown there. Maybe also investigate why the posts that should be Sticky aren’t showing above the rest of the posts like they’re meant to.
- Cleanup unwanted plugins, categories etc. within the Administration interface
- Go through each post and properly tag and categorise them as I often forget to place posts in a category when posting, so most end up in the ‘Uncategorized’ category
- Get some new traffic flowing through/new readers. This is always a goal for every website owner or blogger. So I’ll be looking to get some more advertising out into the interweb through some small side projects I’m taking on with other bloggers.
There’s probably something I’ve forgotten so this list will expand and shrink over time. I will cross off the completed things and maybe we will see some progress over time. (Hopefully not alot of time, I tend to lack, err.. motivation sometimes).
If you’re looking to do a good deed, why not help out with one of the above problems? Even if it is a very small thing, all help is greatly appreciated.

If you read the sidenotes, you’ll know the single pages such as the Donate Page aren’t showing. I think I’ve found the problem: the_content();. It’s within the page loop after the post meta block (which is showing) but for some reason Wordpress isn’t grabbing the page content properly. For now I’ve simply put in a small message explaining the situation and apologising for any inconvenience. If you can offer your know-how or maybe you just think you know what the problem is and want to offer your help, check out my post at the Redoable support forums or leave a comment. I will be forever in your debt!

I’ve managed to implement a solution and it comes in the name of Spam Karma 2. So props to Dr. Dave for the great plugin, all the spam seem to have stopped now and Akismet is picking up even more spam. With Spam Karma working alongside Akismet things are looking good on the spam blocking front. Amen to that.

I’m almost at my wits end with the problem of these bloody spam comments - over 20 spam comments today have made it past Akismet and the moderation queue, thus making it onto the site. There’s been at least 20 in the moderation queue and hardly any caught by Akismet. Are the spammers getting smarter or is Akismet becoming lax? Maybe it’s time to try Akismet with Spam Karma or something to that accord.

Recently a fair few spam comments have been making it past Akismet’s filters and into the Wordpress Moderation Queue. It seems rather strange that Akismet would miss it and Wordpress picks it up considering Akismet is generally intended to be a better spam filter then the default Wordpress one. Anyone else experiencing this situation as well or can someone enlighten me as to why they make it past Akismet and end up in the moderation queue? I know they get in the moderation queue because they’ve been flagged as spam but if they’re spam I think Akismet should catch them first.

Thanks to the suggestions of Paul OFlaherty and Jay, I have removed the ‘time since’ badge next to the post title and it is now found in the post meta box beneath the post title. I am still looking into other bugs such as the pages not showing and editing a few plugins. But now it should be smooth sailing ahead from here. I also just marked my 4000th comment as spam in case you wanted to know.

Or does everyone agree that the ‘10 minutes ago’ or whatever little tags next to the main posts on the left are a little overkill / look like they’re overcrowding the page or something to that effect?

Considering the recent hype around Joost the new Internet TV service in the blogosphere, I’ve decided I want to give it a try. But of course it’s this ‘oh we’re in the Beta stage so you have to get an invite’ deal (remind you of gmail, anyone?), so I’m appealing to anyone who reads this who wants to do their daily good deed and swing me an invite: jarred [at] forgedeuphoria [dot] com considering invites have just been made unlimited to people already on the service.
thankyou
Thanks to a kind soul who reads lifehacker.com, I’ve received an invite and now have unlimited invites to give away so go ahead and ask in the comments if you want to try out Joost.

The title says it all. I think it’s a problem with the theme but I’m not sure so I’ll have to peruse the code and see if I can find why the pages aren’t showing. I’ll try and have it fixed within a week. Edit - here’s the possible culprit.
